“Pom Poms” by Photographer Marcus Maddox

Based fully between Philadelphia and Unique York, photographer Marcus Maddox (beforehand featured right here) documents DIY song scenes in Philadelphia for the second installment of his ongoing sequence, “Pom Poms.” Exploring the post-collegial abilities all the intention thru the context of dwell shows, his candid photos primarily feel in particular poignant in the future of these times of social isolation.

Over the final two years, Maddox has attended 96 shows in Philadelphia and made over 6,000 photos of the DIY song scene. Impressed by the naturalism of the Mumblecore movie scoot—in particular films such as Frances Ha, Mutual Appreciation, and The Color Wheel—Maddox approaches the work with an trace for what he describes as, “the implausible thing about mundanities in life.” Coaching his lens toward the interactions between showcase-goers, he memorializes fleeting moments that would in any other case scoot omitted.
